Volvi thermal town is one of the most historic ones in Greece. According to tradition, a spa complex was built there by king Philip V of Macedonia in the 3rd century BC. Even if this is just a rumour, the existence of late Byzantine infrastructure have been attested archaeologically and the remains of the Ottoman baths (kaplica) are still extant. The Ottoman traveller Evliya Celebi has visited the spa complex in the 17th century. In 1920 the Greek State accorded the right to manage the thermal springs to the municipality of Apollonia. From that time onwards started an effort for the valorization of the springs; a spa-town, including two 3-star and three 2-star hotels as well as bungalows, developed in the post-war period. Hotel Aristotelis is one the former. Its large verandas overlook lake Volvi offering its tenants the privilege of meals with a view. Prior to its closure in 2018, it had a row of private bath tubs, a gym, a beauty parlour and a small pool. It attracted international clientelle, particularly from Russia and the Balkan countries.
