Lake Volvi Baths is a settlement located 43 km from Thessaloniki. Before 2011 it was part of the municipality of Nea Apollonia. The thermal town of Volvi is one of the most historic in Greece. According to tradition, a spa complex was built there by King Philip V of Macedonia in the 3rd century BCE. While this may be more legend than fact, the existence of late Byzantine infrastructure has been confirmed archaeologically, and the remains of the Ottoman baths (kaplica) are still extant. The Ottoman Turkish traveller Evliya Çelebi (1611-1682) visited the spa complex in the 17th century. In 1920, the Greek State granted the right to manage the thermal springs to the municipality of Apollonia. From that time onward, efforts began to enhance, promote, and develop the springs. A spa settlement gradually was formed in the post-war period, featuring two 3-star hotels three 2-star hotels, and bungalows. Hotel Aristotelis is one the former. Its large verandas overlook Lake Volvi, offering guests the privilege of dining with a view. Before its closure in 2018, the hotel featured private bathtubs, a gym, a beauty parlour, and a small pool. It attracted international clientele, particularly from Russia and the Balkan countries.
