Kostas Katsigiannis was born in 1944 in Athens. In 1966 he graduated from the National Technical University of Athens with a degree in civil engineering. In 1970, he began working at the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO). Since 1987, he held senior management positions, serving as Director of Technical Services (1987-1990), and later as Director of Property (1994). That same year, he was promoted to Director General of the GNTO, a position he held until his retirement in June 2005. Throughout his career, he was actively involved in regional tourism development, as well as in promoting special forms of tourism, such as sports tourism. He was also significantly involved in the preparation for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, acting as: Coordinator of the joint committee between the Ministry of Tourism Development and "Athens 2004" on issues related to hotel and hospitality capacity and infrastructure, GNTO representative on the Olympic Games special security committee, and head of the committee responsible for supplying and placing information stands in Athens and Piraeus during the Games. Katsigiannis is also the author of a book on the history of Greek tourism titled Greek Tourism Organisation - Journey in Time, and has contributed articles to the press. He has participated in more than 150 conferences in Greece and abroad. In July 2024, Kostas Katsigiannis was interviewed for our digital exhibition. In this interview, he reflects on the origins of the GNTO, the scope of its activities, and his personal contributions in various leadership roles. For 35 years, he continued the work of his predecessors with vision and dedication, particularly in key areas such as campsites, marinas, Xenia hotels, and in the management of GNTO-owned land.
